Accountant

Location: Main Office; Columbus, Ohio

Reports to: Assistant Vice President, Accounting and Financial Reporting

Functions:

1. Prepares, supervises, verifies and controls the entering of journal entries to the general ledger and prepares monthly financial statements for all AMP-Ohio Hydroelectric (Hydro) projects. 

 

2. Coordinates monthly, quarterly and year-end closing for projects described in (1) above. 

 

3. Works with IT, Risk and other departments to document, recommend, establish and maintain adequate internal controls over Oracle Accounting System Modules. 

 

4. Ensures that all transactions are properly recorded in the general ledger and that account balances are accurate with respect to Hydro Projects.

 

5. Responsible for closing the books and records each month, quarter and year-end for Hydro projects. 

 

6. Oversees the accrual and recording of liabilities and payment of invoices received for Hydro Projects.

 

7. Prepares monthly financial statements compared to budget for Hydro projects for review by the finance committee and board of trustees.

 

8. Ensures that purchase orders are properly set-up for Hydro project contracts and capital expenditures.

 

9. Prepares financial statements for disclosure in official statements as required.

 

10. Ensures that financial statements are prepared in accordance with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission system of accounts and in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles as accounting industry changes and new accounting pronouncements are monitored on an on-going basis.

 

11. Works with project site personnel in processing purchase orders, invoices and contractor change orders.

 

12. Assists in developing internal controls and procedures for on-site project accounting related activity.

 

13. Responsible for yearly budget preparation for all Hydro projects, including preparation of budget revisions for approval by the board of trustees as needed.

 

14. Assists outside auditors including preparation of audit schedules, providing explanation of account fluctuations, explanations of account balances and other information and data as required.

 

15. Works with legal counsel on an on-going basis to ensure that Hydro projects are in compliance with applicable state laws.

 

16. Responsible for making sure that all state, property and sales tax returns are filed in a timely manner, if applicable.

 

17. Assists with training of AMP-Ohio accounting staff.

 

18. Assists in preparing and distributing 1099 forms to contractors after year-end each year, if applicable.

 

19. Assists in preparing project cash flows and capital expenditure budgets. 

 

20. Performs other duties as assigned.


Skills:

1. A Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university is required.  CPA and/or MBA preferred

 

2. Three (3) years public accounting experience preferred.

 

3. A general knowledge of electric utility industry is desired.

 

4. Knowledge of FERC Uniform System of Accounts and Oracle Accounting System is a plus.

 

5. Must demonstrate excellent verbal, written & interpersonal skills including experience dealing with many types of people at all business levels.

 

6. Must demonstrate strong analytical skills, be highly accurate, detail oriented and demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks in order to meet required deadlines.

 

7. Must demonstrate a high degree of expertise in the use of software tools that produce items such as spreadsheets, written reports, and database reports (e.g., Excel, Word).

Information Technology Business Applications Specialist

Functions:

Power Quality/Substation Maintenance Technician

Location: Main Office; Columbus, Ohio

Reports to: Director of Technical Services

Functions:

1.  Performs electrical energy efficiency studies, infrared scanning services, various power quality related services (such as load monitoring, power disturbance monitoring, harmonic analysis, etc.), and various substation equipment testing.

 

2.  Works with key account representatives to provide services.

 

3.  Manages billing activity for both external and internal customers.

 

4.  Assists design engineers with member community projects.

Skills:

1. A minimum of five (5) years experience in a Power Quality and Substation Maintenance field is required.

 

2.  Must have prior work experience operating a variety of Power Quality analyzers, thermal equipment and substation testing equipment.

4.  Must be deadline/critical path oriented and have strong ability to prioritize workload.

Transmission & Distribution Engineer

Location: Main Office; Columbus, Ohio

Reports to: Director of Technical Services

Functions:

1. Provides consultation to members on their electric system needs and improvements.

 

2. Designs overhead and underground electric distribution lines (4160V-34kV) for new circuits and for upgrades to existing circuits.

 

3. Assists in the design of overhead and underground transmission lines (from 34kV – 138kV) for new circuits and for upgrades to existing circuits.

 

4. Specifies electrical apparatus such as transformers, switchgear, fuses, and other protective devices.

 

5. Assists in the management of projects involving overhead and underground transmission line design and construction.

 

6. Assists members and staff field personnel in troubleshooting distribution problems.

 

7. Assists in technical specifications for formal bidding of distribution and transmission projects.

 

8. As a member of the Technical Services section, participates in team and/or project activities which support member needs: transmission and distribution contract work; individual member contact; training program development and/or delivery; load management activities; etc.

 

9. Performs other duties as assigned.


Skills:

1. A minimum of a four (4) year accredited degree in electrical engineering or related degree is required. Engineering in Training (EIT) is preferred; Ability to obtain EIT within 24 months is required.

 

2. Utility design experience is preferred.

 

3. Four to six years electrical distribution and substation design experience is preferred.

Manager of Hydroelectric Field Construction Oversight

Location: Main Office; Columbus, Ohio

Reports to: Assistant Vice President of Hydroelectric Development

Functions:

1. Provides construction activity oversight of the resident engineer (MWH) currently at three locations; solves or minimizes problems before they impact the project’s success.

 

2. Inspects construction sites and coordinates with the site owner’s construction field representatives to monitor site progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards.

 

3. Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors performance is in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budget.

 

4. Prepares project reports as requested; coordinates between the resident engineer, the headquarters project team, the owner’s field staff, the construction oversight subcommittee, and the Board participants’ committee on a regular basis.

 

5. Oversees modification of project reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and designs.

 

6. Oversees the management of construction related document control including but not limited to; change orders, billings, field production tracking, purchasing documentation and contract administration.

 

7. Monitors activities between the resident engineer, the general contractor and subcontractors.

 

8. Coordinates deliveries and inspections of equipment.

 

9. May assist in the construction plan development, selection of engineering consultants and any other related activities associated with civil engineering projects for AMP-Ohio, MESA or their members.

 

10. Performs other duties as assigned.


Skills:

1. Must have a four year degree in civil engineering; or four year degree in any academic major program with demonstrated on the job experience in heavy construction.

 

2. A Professional Engineer's license is preferred.

 

3. A minimum of 10 years’ experience in heavy highway construction or large dam construction is required.

 

4. Past work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or large governmental construction projects experience is a plus.

 

5. Must be willing to work outdoors approximately 75% of the time.

 

6. Strong verbal, written, and computer skills are essential; must demonstrate previous success in building effective business relationships.

 

7. Must be deadline/critical path oriented and have a strong ability to prioritize.

 

8. Extensive travel between sites is required. 
 
9. Experience with AutoCAD and project planning software applications is preferred.

Director of Energy Efficiency

Location: Main Office; Columbus, Ohio

Reports to: Senior Director of Regulatory Policy

Functions:

1. Responsible for the planning, start-up, marketing, education, implementation, oversight and continued maintenance and enhancement of a wide range of energy efficiency programs, products and services for a diverse set of member municipalities and boroughs in six states.

 

2. Assures full integration of energy efficiency programs (based upon best business practices) for all sites owned or operated by AMP-Ohio. 

 

3. Leads the development of RFP’s and contract negotiations with multiple 3rd party vendors.

 

4. Coordinates efforts with the Director of Business Development and associated staff to offer a comprehensive and efficient team.

 

5. Responsible for the preparation of monthly reports for the AMP-Ohio Board of Trustees.

 

6. Provides project oversight for each ongoing energy efficiency project (for each Member).

 

7. Develops a system to monitor, evaluate and verify the results of all major energy efficiency projects.

 

8. Assists with Member marketing and educational outreach projects.


Skills:

1. A Bachelor’s degree in a business (e.g., marketing, sales), engineering, energy or other relevant discipline and a minimum of 3-5 years experience in project or contract management with some supervisory experience is required; direct experience in energy efficiency and/or sales, marketing and dealing with direct customer service situations is preferred. Local government or public power experience a plus.

 

2. Must demonstrate a broad knowledge of history, current practices and trends regarding energy efficiency policy, regulation, programs and technologies.

 

3. Strong verbal, written, computer and presentation skills are essential; must demonstrate previous success in building effective business relationships in a service environment.

 

4. Must be proficient with word processing, spreadsheets and database software.

 

5. Must be organized, detail-oriented, accurate, and able to handle multiple tasks and competing priorities.

Power Supply Planning Engineer

Location: Main Office; Columbus, Ohio

Reports to: Director of Power Supply & Planning

Functions:

1. Plan and balance members’ short and long term power portfolio using: existing and planned assets, long term power purchase agreements, and market purchases.

 

2. Propose and evaluate strategies for minimizing total delivered cost of power and associated risk. 

 

3. Respond to Request-For-Proposals issued by current and potential members.  Develop portfolio alternatives.  Prepare written and verbal proposals.

 

4. Develop short and long term demand and energy forecasts using regression analysis.

 

5. Conduct analysis on proposed generation resources.  Develop financial models.  Use dispatch and optimal resource mix models such as the Beck model. 

 

6. Perform risk analysis using analytical tools.

 

7. Educate members on market fundamentals and market changes.  Work with member consultants.  Obtain approval of proposed power supply plans.

 

8. Work with dispatch to ensure power schedules are carried out as planned.

 

9. Work with billing to ensure members are billed properly.  Explain bills to members as needed. 

 

10. Develop power sharing pools for resource sharing including: organizational structure, operation rules, billing rules, and member/ consultant education.

 

11. Manage member ARR and FTR portfolios including: congestion analysis, monitoring market changes, member education, and member approval.

 

12. Compose and review power purchase/sale and related contracts.

 

13. Software development for managing power supply information including: Access databases, Excel spreadsheets, and macro writing.
 
14. Prepare annual departmental budget, overall power costs forecast, annual generation asset usage, and company revenue forecast for annual budget.

 

15. Perform special analyses for specific AMP-Ohio or member owned generation on as needed basis.

 

16. Fill in for Power Transaction Specialists.  (Applies to only one of the budgeted Planning Engineer positions.  Approximately 2 months per year.)

 

17. Performs other duties as assigned.


Skills:

1. A minimum of a four (4) year degree or equivalent experience in engineering, mathematics or a related field is required.

 

2. Must have a minimum of three years work experience with statistical analysis, risk analysis, or wholesale power markets.  

 

3. Prefer knowledge of capacity and energy concepts and applications.

 

4. Strong written and oral communications skills required.

 

5. Must be a self-starter, demonstrate teamwork skills and have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks. 

 

6. Must be highly accurate and detail oriented and have excellent project management, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

 

7. Extensive experience with spreadsheets and database applications is required.
