Berea, Kentucky joins the organization

Berea, Kentucky has become the newest member of American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP), bringing the organization’s total membership to 134 municipal utilities. The AMP Board of Trustees recently approved Berea’s membership application, following an extensive financial review, based on established criteria for acceptance of new members.

“AMP is recognized as an industry leader and this is due in large part to the strength and diversity of our member utilities,” said Marc Gerken, AMP president/CEO. “We look forward to working with Berea as a partner in their efforts to provide reliable, cost-effective power supply. Their membership benefits the organization as a whole.”

Located in Madison County (east central Kentucky), Berea has a population of approximately 13,500. The electric system, established in 2005, serves 5,168 total meters with a 2014 peak of 36,043 kW. The town is home to Berea College, a private, Liberal Arts College. Berea becomes the sixth AMP member in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

AMP is a leader in wholesale energy supply and value-added member services for publicly-owned electric utilities. The organization was formed in 1971 with 26 members, all from Ohio, and has grown substantially both in membership and in services offered.
