Services - SCADA

AMP-Ohio owns and operates an internal Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System. This system is a state of the art system that collects meter data and controls generation around the state. AMP-Ohio has recently embarked on $1.9 M worth of upgrades to this system to eliminate terrestrial based telecommunication lines and remote terminal units. They are being replaced with a smart meter from Power Measurements and a satellite receiver from Spacenet. Additional software developed in house also projects members loads when there are communication outages or failures. The result is that the SCADA system is accessing data every 15 seconds compared to 2 minutes a couple of years ago. This system is also very reliable. AMP-Ohio's SCADA system has a 100% uptime. The result of all of this is that member load data is more accurate and timely and as a result, members' power supply costs are lower.

SCADA staff can provide occasional support and consulting to members who own their own SCADA systems. However, SCADA staff is not typically utilized for longer term projects as keeping our own systems up and running with all of the changes in the power supply industry consumes most of our time.
