Services - Scholarship Program
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
This program was developed to encourage high school students in AMP-Ohio member communities to further their educations, and to create an awareness of careers in the municipal electric utility field.
Since 1987, AMP-Ohio has distributed more than $150,000 in scholarship awards to 103 students.
The Richard H. Gorsuch Scholarship
This one-time scholarship award of $1,500 is presented to as many as three students annually who meet criteria including:
- Applicant must be a student whose parent or guardian is an employee of an AMP-Ohio member municipal electric department or an employee of AMP-Ohio.
- Student is a graduating high school senior with cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
The Lyle B. Wright Scholarship
This one-time scholarship award of $1,500 is presented to as many as four students annually who meet criteria including:
- Applicant must be a student whose household receives electricity from an AMP Ohio member community.
- Student is a graduating high school senior with cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Winners of both awards are determined through:
- Preparation of an essay on public power
- Personal interview
- Personal achievement, school/community activities
- Knowledge of public power based on a written test
- Scholastic record
