AMP-OHIO SAFETY PROGRAM
Our present schedule allows an AMP-Ohio safety Professional to visit each member four (4) times in the year. The following is a list of the topics that we are planning to cover in these visits, however, we will present any topic you would like. We will present 4 of these of these topics:
- Behavior – based Safety: This topic covers the proactive approach to injury prevention that either focuses on at-risk behaviors that can lead to an injury, or on safe behaviors that can contribute to injury prevention. Also we will cover Rubber Goods.
- AEDs: This topic will cover the proper use of AEDs and the dos and don’ts. We will cover the types of AEDs and there philosophy behind each type. This will prepare your people where and when AEDs come into play.
- Electrical Safety Related Work Practices: This topic will cover what the term Qualified and Authorized mean and how they come into play. Also we will cover how people can become qualified to do whatever work they do. What OSHA has to say on the subject and what we have to abide by.
- Temperature Extremes: This covers working in Extreme Heat or Cold. Hypothermia and Frostbite are covered in depth, along with Heat Stroke, Heat Exhaustion. What are the different ways we can get the job done in these conditions.
- Work Zone Safety: This topic will cover the proper way to set your work zone up to protect the crew and the public. The proper equipment that is required and what is not.
- Pole Top & Bucket Rescue: This topic covers the technique of rescuing a person from a pole or out of an aerial bucket. This session is an OSHA requirement. Every person who climbs a pole or goes up in a bucket truck must attend. Also if you are the ground person for someone in an aerial bucket, this is one of the requirements to do so. Every member community that has signed the Pole Top & Bucket Truck Rescue Training contract will be offered the training on an annual basis.
Note: The Safety Training Contract that was sent to every member community must be signed and returned to AMP-Ohio in order to take part in our Pole Top & Bucket Rescue training program. If you have already signed the contract your fine, but for those who have not, you must sign the contract and return it to AMP-Ohio to receive this training. If you have any questions please contact Roy Dolezal 614-306-4269 or Jane Juergens 614-337-6222.
Many of you have expressed an interest in developing an in-house program for the full twelve months of the year. To assist you with this effort we would recommend these additional topics. We are available to provide material to help you design an in-house program. Also another option is to look into our OSHA Compliance Program that can give you a Safety Professional at your disposal. If you would like information on this program please contact Jane Juergens 614-337-6222
Lifting Techniques:
This topic should cover the proper way to lift objects and at the proper position. Also what types of injuries come with improper lifting. Back injuries are one of the biggest injuries in the work force today. How can we prevent these injuries should be one of the strong points in the topic.
Job Safety Analysis:
In covering this topic one should list the hazards of each task that is asked performed in the trade. Identify and what can we do to eliminate or minimize the risk. This can be brought right into you policies in updating and putting into practice.
Accident Reporting and Investigations:
This topic should be covered by what is required by OSHA in what is reportable and what is not. What is your time frame? Looking at facts not hear say and being objective in your findings not to have your mind made up before you find the root cause to injuries which will make your department have better attitude and work safely.
Confined Spaces:
Knowing what a confined space is and how to identify should cover this topic. What are the procedures to entering and working in confined Spaces. What does OSHA have to say about confined spaces and what rules must you follow.
Fire Extinguishers:
In covering this topic one should review the types of fires. Know the pros & cons of fighting a fire. Know when it is time to get away and call professionals. Reviewing you policies and update to the present day.
Hand and Portable Power Tools:
Identifying the different hand tools and power tools should cover this topic and how they are used. The proper ways to use these tools and store them. Review the proper inspection techniques and check on a regular basis.
